 Girls' Cricket

Girls' Cricket set to make a big impact in 2010

With the introduction this summer of The South Norfolk Community League U13 girls' softball league and the Lady Taverners Competition run by The Norfolk Cricket Board, 2010 promises much for the future of the ladies' game in Norfolk.

Girls' cricket is high on the agenda of The NCB and these development opportunities will encourage competitive participation and help girls sections to consolidate progress in working towards their own leagues.

Rules for U13 Girls' Softball League

  • Teams shall comprise of eight players. Each match shall be of sixteen overs per side.

  • Scoring will be as for normal cricket. Batsmen will bat in pairs for four overs. Each time a wicket is lost, 5 runs will be deducted from the total. The score will start at 200.

  • Wides and no balls shall count as two runs to the batting side and will not be bowled again, except in the last over. Note that two runs are still awarded, as well as the extra ball, in the final over.

  • Every player must bowl one over and not more than 3 overs.

  • The LBW law will not apply in this league.

  • 2 points will be awarded for a win, 1 for a tie with 0 for a loss or no result.

  • The games will be played on a 20 yard pitch with a Reader Windball (or similar).

Girls age limits for participation in other leagues

Whilst the new U13 competition focuses on encouraging additional girls to play cricket in a competitive environment, it is appreciated that there are an increasing number who have moved above this level and are now competing in hardball games.

For 2010, the league will allow girls to play two years below their age in the hardball matches. The intention is to accelerate the transition of players from the softball game leading to the introduction of dedicated girls only leagues across the county.       ECB Logo
